Fire Island Home Destroyed by Blaze

A home under construction in Fire Island Pines was destroyed late Tuesday night by a fire that caused minor damage to two nearby homes, fire officials said.

The fire broke out shortly before 10 p.m. and took more than an hour to extinguish.

The cause of the blaze is being investigated by the Suffolk County Arson Squad.

The address of the home was not immediately available.

Volunteers from Bayport, Sayville, Fire Island Pines, Cherry Grove, Ocean Beach and Point of Woods responded to the scene. More than 50 firefighters battled the blaze. No one was injured, officials said. The home was vacant.
