| Located in Suffolk County, Long Island on the Great South Bay, Bayport Fire Department is composed of Engine Company No.1, Hook & Ladder Company No. 1, and Hose Company No. 1.
While this is not the fanciest website on Long Island, it happens to be a very functional website. According to CONTACT INFO Jason Feinberg is responsible for this website. When you open the HOME page at <http://www.bayportfd.org> the first thing you will notice is that it is, clean, crisp and easy to read. It is also free of any annoying background music found on some fire department websites. The site is not only designed for the fire community, it also informs the general public about who they are and what they do. Emergency Preparedness is an important concern in today's world. On the DISASTERS page there are links to Ready.gov where you can find out what makes up an adequate first aid kit, emergency food and water supplies necessary and tips on how to deal with various disasters. There are no advertisment banners on this website, however if you click on the fire district and headquarters website at <http:bayportfd.com> you will find an ad at the bottom of the page. My advice is, for the few pennies that you are getting for that ad, drop it, it detracts from the site. Clicking on the EQUIPMENT link first brings you to a page listing of mutual aid given and received by various New York departments. The actual link is at the bottom of this page. The PHOTO GALLERY page has some spectacular photos of a live burn tankcar drill. However, even more impressive are the shots of the fire vortex. There are no credits to the photographer on the page. The FIRE PREVENTION page could certainly use an update and some links to more current fire prevention programs. I'm sure that the Bayport FD conducts some important public education in this area, why not share that information? Overall, while the site has a clean and crisp style and is refreshing in that respect, it needs an information update. I'm going to jot this site down for future review. This site has much potential to not come back and take another look. |
